Subscribing to a Calendar URL

Add an external calendar to your Google/Outlook/Apple/etc calendar app using an ICS link

It’s easy to add an auto-updating, colour-coded, read-only view of a public calendar without manually copying events or polluting your own calendar.

TL;DR generic instructions:

  1. find an option to Subscribe/Add calendar from URL/New Calendar Subscription/Add Subscribed Calendar
  2. paste the URL

Specific instructions for popular apps:

Google

  1. open Google Calendar in a browser (not mobile)
  2. find Other calendars in the left sidebar and click +
  3. choose From URL
  4. paste the URL and click Add calendar

Outlook

  1. open Outlook Calendar
  2. click Add calendar and Subscribe from web
  3. paste the URL, give it a name, and click Import

Apple

Mac

  1. File and New Calendar Subscription
  2. paste the URL and click Subscribe

iPhone/iPad

  1. Settings -> Calendar
  2. Accounts -> Add Account -> Other -> Add Subscribed Calendar
  3. paste the URL
