Dynamic versus Formal Translation

Teaching versus Boasting

A formal translation is like a half-cooked meal. The job hasn’t been finished, and it can have deadly consequences.

True translations are, by definition, dynamic.

A common counter-argument is that dynamic translations lose the original culture. I agree, but note that formal translations lose the original meaning. Show me someone who prefers formal translations, and I’ll show you a Pharisee who prefers the letter to the spirit of the law.
